Origin of the goods – NAFTA vs USMCA, Risks and Consequences from a U.S. and Mexico Perspective

The implementation of the USMCA on July 1st, 2020 brought about a number of significant upgrades to the NAFTA agreement. Nearly one and a half years into the new agreement, exporters and importers are gradually beginning to experience the real-life challenges and risks presented by the updates and additions to the rules. This is of particular importance as one should recognize that in addition to potential origin verifications under the USMCA, NAFTA verifications can still be conducted until June 30, 2025 for trade transactions that took place up to June 30, 2020 (the date when NAFTA was replaced with the USMCA)

This seminar will review the main differences between both agreements and highlight areas that exporters and importers need to be aware of as they conduct day-to-day trade transactions. Our speakers will also review recent developments impacting trade between USMCA countries with an emphasis on the way that certain provisions in the agreement are being interpreted and applied by MX and US exporters and importers.

Mexican Changes to the Regulations
(It’s evolving daily!)

An up-to-date and informative webinar presented by Braumiller Law Group Mexico Legal Counsel, Brenda Cordova

Tuesday, August 11th, 10:00 – 11:00 AM CDT

One of the main intentions of USMCA / TMEC is to facilitate trade between Mexico, Canada and the United States by promoting efficient and transparent customs procedures that reduce costs and ensure predictability.

Due to the implementation of this Treaty, Mexico has been making a number of relevant changes to its domestic regulations pertaining to Customs and trade matters. One of these regulation changes is the general Customs rules which were published on June 30th, 2020… however, on July 24, 2020 approximately a month later, Mexico released a new updated version of these rules with many relevant changes!

What are those changes and how they will impact your business operations and investments in Mexico? Are these changes aimed to greatly facilitate trade in Mexico? Will there be more changes?

This webinar will answer those questions, especially those pertaining to IMMEX /maquiladoras, and their VAT certifications, among other related topics.

Who should attend:

Producers, exporters, importers, investors and any one from Canada and the United States with business in Mexico, as well as anyone interested in learning about the Mexican Customs procedures.
